Huo Yuanjia Sets Up a Martial Arts Challenge Stage

page01

Huo Yuanjia (1870-1910) was a revered martial artist and patriot during the late Qing Dynasty in China. From a young age, he mastered extraordinary martial arts techniques, becoming a renowned figure and representative of the Huo Family Fist style.

During that era, following the invasion of China by the Eight-Nation Alliance, foreign strongmen from various world powers came to China to perform and showcase their skills. They often acted arrogantly, claiming supremacy and looking down upon the Chinese people. To defend national dignity, Huo Yuanjia resolutely set up a martial arts challenge stage in Shanghai for a month, specifically declaring his intent to compete against these foreign strongmen. Frightened, those foreign strongmen scattered and hid, with no one daring to challenge him to a fight.

By setting up this stage, Huo Yuanjia showcased the backbone of the Chinese nation and the indomitable spirit of the Chinese people.
